The Birthday Girl

It was 8:52 a.m .She kept fixing her hair and pulling and adjusting her kurta, She looked quite pretty and had a glow on her face. She shifted her weight impatiently from one foot to another and glanced at her watch…. ‘Where is the damn train?!’ she prolly thought and cursed a little under her breath.

The train arrived and I got on board…she followed right behind me.

“Happy birthday !!!!” I heard 2-3 chicks scream…and I when I turned to look I saw some girls wishing the same ‘decked up’ chick. She looked thrilled on being wished and thanked them graciously.

I smiled.

After nerul station, she came and stood next to me while talking to another girl.

Girl: heyy! How u yaar? Finished your assignments?

Birthday girl: hi…(waits)….no…no I haven’t done anything....

(When no wishes came her way…she was visibly annoyed.)

Birthday girl: (smirks) You know I can’t believe this…I want to push you off the train!

Girl: (shocked) what!? Why!? What are you talking bout?

Birthday girl: Never mind.

Girl: (notices her necklace) hey you got a new necklace?! It’s damn neat!

Birthday girl: Thanks…..my parents GIFTED it to me.

Girl: Oh! Damn cool. How come?

Birthday girl: Nothing…they are idiots to gift me a platinum chain for balls!

Girl: oh btw I like your kurta too…is it new? Full shopping and all huh?!

Birthday girl: You still don’t get it do you??! (disappointed)

Girl : Huh?!?! (decides to chuck the topic) Arre! Which lectures do we have today? Gadge’s double lec na?

Birthday girl: shiyyaatt! Of all days, today!! Damn!

Girl: Why? What is so special bout today? New necklace…new top…..no Gadge for lecs….

Birthday girl: You know I can’t believe this! You are getting shameless by the minute!

Girl: What are you talking bout? (Getting confused and a little annoyed)

At which point I turned to the ‘birthday girl’ extended my hand…. “Happy birthday! You indeed are looking very pretty today! Hope you have a nice day!”

I made sure I didn’t miss the shocked expressions on both their faces before getting off the train at Kharghar station
